Book Nerd Interview
Born and raised in North Eastern Pennsylvania, Deborah Noel fell in love with writing at age 12. She has written plays, short stories and poetry. Married at sunset on Hawaii’s Maui Island, Deborah and her husband Herb, still resides in Pennsylvania, where they enjoy moments of joy with their granddaughter and Jack Russell Terrier, named Rocket. While their demolition business was slow in 2009, her husband encouraged her to follow her novel-writing dream. “Tangled Blood Lines” is the result.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
Honest, Perfectionist, and Fun-loving
What fiction most influenced your childhood, and what effect did those stories have on your writing?
Growing up, my favorite author was V.C. Andrews. I had to read every one of her books. The biggest effect she had on me was being able to "see" the story, getting to know the characters almost personally. I try to make my characters come off the same way, like the reader knows my characters like they know their own friends. I want my readers to feel emotions right along with my characters.
What made you take the plunge and start writing?
Writing, to me, is a part of my soul. I almost feel lost when I don't write ~ like something is missing. I took the plunge into writing "Tangled Blood Lines" when the economy went south. My husband's demolition business had stalled to a crawl and when I mentioned to him that I wanted to write a novel, he said "Well, you have the time with business being slow, so go for it." I did.
Beyond your own work (of course), what is your all-time favorite book and why? And what is your favorite book outside your genre?
Wow, so many to choose from... I read Danielle Steele, James Patterson, Janet Evanovich, Stephanie Meyers, mostly. I couldn't pick a favorite off the top of my head.
What were your feelings when your first novel was accepted/when you first saw the cover of the finished product?
When "Tangled Blood Lines" was accepted I was elated! I felt accomplished. It was definitely a long-time dream come true for me. I had always dreamed of becoming a published author. When my publisher, Vamptasy Publishing, sent me the cover she had designed, I fell in love. She did a top-notch job with the cover!
For those who are unfamiliar with your novel; Tangled Blood Lines, how would you introduce it?
"Tangled Blood Lines" is the first book in a series that is about vampires with witches, wolves, crime scene investigations and tangled lineages. My vampires aren't nice and sparkling. I've brought back the old-school vampires knee deep in bloody gruesome murders. I tossed in a love story for good measure.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating Cianna?
That I am a lot like her.
Which character have you enjoyed writing the most?
That is a toss up between Brae and Remmie.
What’s one thing that readers would be surprised to find out about Declan?
I would think that the surprise would be Declan's lineage, which is briefly described late in the book. It will be completely uncovered in the sequel, "Sins of Blood" which we are proposing to release in Fall of 2012.
Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
"Tangled Blood Lines" is the first book in the "Tangled Legacy Series". I am currently planning for there to be about 6-8 books in the series, but most likely there will be more then that.
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Yes, I do. Reviews are very important to me. I want to know whether or not I did my job for my readers. I want to learn what they like or dislike. Reviews, in my opinion, help to let me get to know my readers. Reviews help me grow and become a better writer.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I am also working on a short story for an anthology I was asked to participate in, which I will turn into a novel. I am also working on what I call an "in-between" novellette for the "Tangled Legacy Series", it will tell the stories of the human lives of five of the "Tangled Blood Lines" vampires.
Believe it or not, I am also working on a children's series, two seperate novels (one about my family's heritage and one dealing with a mermaid) and I was asked by my best friend to finish a novel she had started before she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She asked me to finish for her before she passed away.
Who was your first boyfriend?
His name was Brad. We sat next to each other in English class in 6th or 7th grade. We both had blonde hair and blue eyes, so everyone used to call us Raggedy Ann and Andy as a joke. Our boyfriend/girlfriend status didn't last very long.
If you could be any mythology creature, what would you be?
A shape-shifter. It would be so awesome to be able to change into any creature of your choice for any reason!
List 3 of your all time favorite movies?
1. Ghost Ship 2. The Green Mile 3. The Last House on the Left
Favorite Cartoon?
Family Guy, only because you can't watch the old Looney Tunes from when I was little.

Jean, Thank you so much for having me!
This is not your sweet sparkling vampire story. Oldschool vampires have resurfaced, responsible for brutal murders and more blood than anyone can cope with. In "Tangled Blood Lines", Cianna Fitzgerald, a young but "retired" crime scene investigator, finds herself back in a world she walked away from some years ago.
She grew up in twentieth century Pennsylvania countryside knowing she possesses superhuman powers from her "Irish pixie" bloodlines. She had retired after a particularly tough case where the victim was her husband's twin brother. After her brief respite from murders and homicides, Cianna witnesses a killing where the murderer is a vampire. Her daughter goes missing soon after the killing. Cianna and the love she had once pushed out of her life, her estranged husband Declan, travel halfway around the world to try to save their child.
As the mystery unravels, she learns that although she is a halfbreed, the other half isn't "Irish pixie" as she grew up believing weaving her into a more tangled history and frightening future than she had bargained for.
