Book Nerd Interview
Social Media
I’ve always wanted to be a writer. Even as a little girl, I filled up notebooks with stories and poems. I can’t draw, sing, cook, dance, etc. But I can write. It’s always been a creative outlet for me. I feel very lucky that it has turned into a real career.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Funny, shy, sarcastic
What was your inspiration for the series?
My inspiration was really the characters. They came to me fully developed. I thought they were so interesting and fun, and I really wanted to write them. Next I worked on the setting—their tourist beach town. Then, I came up with the plot, basically by torturing these characters I love so much!
For those who are unfamiliar with your novel; Perception, how would you introduce it?
It’s about a teen psychic who solves mysteries in her tourist town. But it’s also about family, romance, and friendship.
Which character have you enjoyed getting to know over the course of writing your Clarity series?
Perry, Clare’s brother. He’s not a main character, but he’s the most important guy in my main character’s life. And he’s deeper than you’d think at first glance.
Which character was the hardest to write and why?
The villains are always the hardest for me to write because I don’t want them to be mustache-twirlers. I want the motives to seem realistic and the characters, no matter how evil, to seem real.
What’s one thing that readers would be surprised to find out about Clare?
She’s not a romantic.
What question are you never asked in interviews but wish you were?
Would you like a million dollars?
My answer is, “Yes. Thank you.”
What is your most memorable travel experience?
My mother is from Ireland, and I loved going to Dublin with her and seeing the house she grew up in and all the places from her childhood.
If I came to your house and looked in your closet/attic/basement, what’s the one thing that would surprise me the most?
That I keep nothing. I despise clutter and love to throw things out. I’m the opposite of a hoarder. I’m a thrower-outer!
What are 4 things you never leave home without?
My phone.
My wallet.
My Mickey Mouse watch. I feel naked without it.
And, uh…my car? :)

When you can see things others can't, what happens when someone is watching you?
Everybody knows about Clarity "Clare" Fern. She's the psychic girl in school, the one who can place her hands on something and see hidden visions from the past.
Only, Clare would rather not be a celebrity. She prefers hanging back, observing. Her gift is not a game to her.
But then someone starts playing with her head and heart. Messages and gifts from a secret admirer crop up everywhere Clare turns. Could they be from Gabriel, the gorgeous boy who gets Clare's pulse racing? Or from Justin, Clare's hopeful ex-boyfriend who'd do anything to win her back?
One thing is certain. Clare needs to solve this mystery, and soon. Because the messages are becoming sinister, and a girl in town has suddenly disappeared. Clare needs to see her way to the truth -- before it's much too late.
Kim Harrington’s Perception consists of new and well-loved characters from her first novel, Clarity. This time around, Perception contains two mysteries: one involving a missing girl and Clare’s secret admirer. The story is about Clarity “Clare” Fern, who was once your typical teenager in high school, until her psychic gift has given her a lot of attention that she is not used to. She has the ability to touch an object and able to see the visions of people in the past who have touched it.
With all the attention she is getting, there are two boys who are interested in her. The new boy, Gabriel, seems to understand the ordeal she is going through while her ex-boyfriend, Justin, wants to get back with her. While she deals with these two young men, notes and flowers are being sent her way from a secret admirer. At the time when a missing schoolmate is found dead, she can’t help but wonder if the notes and flowers she’s been receiving have other intentions.
Clare comes from a family of psychics and her mother and brother run a psychic business. I noticed that this sequel refers to a lot of events from the series debut. They are not fully explained here but I found Perception to be a standalone tale. If you haven’t read the series debut, it will not confuse you. But it sure does makes you want to read it to find out more about this intriguing
Harrington delivers a strong but simple writing style. It attracts thought and concentration and fully captivates its audience. The mystery she weaves in this tale will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Perception will not disappoint and exceeds all expectations for a sequel.
