The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen

Book Nerd Giveaway

THE FALSE PRINCE is the thrilling first book in a brand-new trilogy filled with danger and deceit and hidden identities that will have readers rushing breathlessly to the end.

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point -- he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

As Sage moves from a rundown orphanage to Conner's sumptuous palace, layer upon layer of treachery and deceit unfold, until finally, a truth is revealed that, in the end, may very well prove more dangerous than all of the lies taken together.

An extraordinary adventure filled with danger and action, lies and deadly truths that will have readers clinging to the edge of their seats.

The first book in Jennifer A. Nielsen’s The Ascendance Series, The False Prince, focuses on Sage, a fourteen year-old quick-witted orphan trying to stay alive in the kingdom of Carthya. When the wealthy nobleman, Conner, purchases Sage and three other boys, they fear that Conner’s intentions may not be good. Soon, the boys are briefed to Conner’s plot of overtaking the throne and saving their kingdom by having one of them impersonate the lost prince of Carthya. Only one of the boys will be chosen to play the false prince leaving the remainder with no future at all.

Jennifer puts together a very witty and enthralling story filled with highly intriguing characters. Like any fourteen year-old, Sage is cleverly witty, but at the same time reckless. He easily gets frustrated but readers will get to see him grow throughout this book. Although he is the hero, he possesses weaknesses, which made the story feel real.

There are plenty of twists and surprises throughout the book. Jennifer’s writing style is capable of pitting her readers into the magical world she created. Each moment of Sage’s journey is described in rich details that readers will feel like they are right beside him. This is a book for anyone seeking adventure with a story unlike anything before. Lead by a strong protagonist, readers will find satisfaction in The False Prince and a strong urge for book two.

  11. My prince charming is my boyfriend who is nothing short of amazement. He helped out an old friend of his who had fallen on really hard times by buying the guy a $100 pair of sneakers, some pants, and some shirts so he could have something to wear to a job interview and to work.

  14. I have no Prince Charming, because I'm a male. My Princess Charming might be... Daenarys from Game of Thrones.

  15. Prince Charming will be whoever treats me right, and decides to give me the time of day EVERYDAY. I haven't had much luck in that department but hopefully it'll happen soon. I usually wouldn't want to be the princess to a fictional prince since they usually have their own princesses and I can't imagine them with me. I did appreciate Prince Oliver from Jodi Piccoult's 'Between the Lines'. Beautiful story!
