Tavia Michaels is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed her parents. When she starts to see strange visions of a boy she’s never spoken with in real life, she begins to suspect that there’s much about her past that she isn’t being told. Tavia will soon discover that she’s an Earthbound—someone with the ability to create matter out of nothing—and that she alone holds the key to stopping the Reduciata, an evil society that manipulates global events for its own shadowy purposes. Tavia will ultimately have to make a choice: to come into her powers and save the world from the evil Reduciata or to choose free will and a love of her own.
From the beginning, readers will immediately develop a liking for Tavia. She carries all the attributes that makes her a character to root and care about. Her braveness is absolutely admirable and her loyalty to the things she believes in is firm. Although smart and clever, there are things she does that make her human and readers will find it to be relatable. There are many things that made her intriguing. The visions she has after the plane crash could just be some kind of traumatic brain injury, or perhaps something bigger and it allowed the writing to build the story’s suspense.
Tavia’s visions are quite interesting. Author Aprilynne Pike has this natural writing talent of drawing readers into a very interesting story and continues to amplify that interest as the story progresses. When it seemed like the story has reached a new level, Pike meticulously adds another exciting ingredient to the story. It felt like it just kept getting better and better.
This is the first book in a series and I’m already hooked. The plot is interestingly enough for readers to come back wanting to soak up more about Tavia and the predicament that she’s been dealt with. As the story grows. so does Tavia. If this is just the first obstacle for Tavia, I can only imagine the kind of hindrance she will face and how she will handle them. Earthbound is exciting, thrilling, and totally addicting.
