Praise for TIGER'S CURSE

“Houck cranks the love-o-stat up another notch…Hypersteamy romance...'hot, melty, smoldering' (but still chaste) make-out sessions…” ―Kirkus Reviews
“Forget vampires and werewolves, tigers are the new hottest thing…a guaranteed page turner with a huge twist at the end that will leave you breathless.” ―RT Book Reviews

YOUR JOURNEY TO PUBLICATION BY COLLEEN HOUCK
I remember the first time I told my family I was writing a book. We were out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant to celebrate my sister’s and my nephew’s birthday. After our meals were brought out, I handed around a stack of notecards with pictures of my characters and character descriptions. I explained the entire premise of the book and spoke excitedly for at least ten minutes before I realized they were all just eating and not staring in rapt attention. Mom was really the only one who believed I’d accomplish what I was trying to do. Once the book was done and they read it, I gained a lot more support.
I started dabbling in writing when the doctor’s told me I couldn’t have children. It broke my heart and writing was a way to fill the void. Even so, I didn’t seriously begin writing until after reading the stories of Stephenie Meyer and J. K. Rowling. These were two middle aged women who just got up and did it. Before them, writers were always these untouchable scholarly types who sipped tea and discussed philosophy in Ivy League colleges. The example of these two seemingly ordinary ladies gave me the courage to try putting pen to paper.
I finished Tiger’s Curse in 2008 and then self—published both Tiger’s Curse and Tiger’s Quest in 2009 mostly so my distant relatives could read the books. To my surprise, Tiger’s Curse hit the bestseller list in January of 2010 and I was soon offered representation and a book contract. Now I’m working on my twelfth book and preparing for two book releases this year. Time has gone by fast. I’m now beginning my tenth year of writing and I love it just as much now as I did then. My books and career has brought my family closer together and I’ve been able to do some amazing things and see some incredible places because of it. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.
1) “Phet,” I said simply. “What brings you to my version of hell?”
The man took hold of my shoulder and peered at me with lucid brown eyes.
“Kishan,” he said gravely, “Kelsey needs you.”
2) The weight of the world suddenly seemed as if it fell upon my shoulders and I was no Atlas with the strength to carry the load. I’d break under the burden.
3) “I know value when I see it too,” I spat. “And you aren’t worth the lice living on the backs of beetles, eating the dung that clings to your camel’s—”
4) “I know I’m not worthy of you,” I said, rubbing my thumb across her knuckles. “I didn’t save you when you needed me. I wasn’t the companion you deserved.”
5) “Beautiful warrior goddess, Durga, is strong. She speak to my ear. Very soft are her words, but smart mans listen, women. Particularly, goddess.”
6) “Shall we pick up where we left off, tiger?” a smooth voice asked.
7) I was about to grab her when she twisted away in a backflip, kicking my chin in the process. When she stood again, the sword was back in her hand. “That is so typical of you,” she said. “Biting the hand that feeds you.”
“You’re getting me confused with a dog,” I said. “I’m perfectly capable of feeding myself.”
8) “Fondness is the word I use to describe my weapons or my favorite horse or, what was it called, ah, popcorn. What I feel for you has become a constant ache in my heart.
9) “If their hearts beat for one another in such a way, why did they hesitate to form a bond?”
“There could be a number of reasons.”
“Such as?”
“Timing, first of all. Sometimes life gets in the way.”
“I do not understand this reason.”
10) “Why do men always think they can steer a woman in the direction they wish simply by creating rules?” she asked.
“Maybe men like rules so they know exactly what to expect. Rules make for an orderly life.”
“Ha! Or-der-ly?” she yelled, shoving my shoulder. “More like or-der. Your kind of order.” She accented each word with a jab of her finger against my chest. “The kind where you can tell me what to do.”
A goddess in need of an ally.
Stranded in a time and place he never wished for, Kishan Rajaram must carry out his destiny of assisting the beautiful yet extremely irritable goddess Durga. This daunting task is not made easy by the fact that he must also face the truth about the girl he loves and the brother who stole her away.
When the wily shaman Phet appears and tells Kishan that Kelsey needs him, he jumps at the chance to see her again. In his efforts to save her, Kishan discovers that the curse he thought was over is just beginning. As time unravels around him, Kishan realizes that the fates of all those he holds dear lie in hands.
The goddess’s power hangs in the balance. Kishan has no choice but to sacrifice the unthinkable to fight the dark forces swirling around the woman he’s charged to protect. As he does, he discovers that love and loyalty create their own magic and accepts that he must decide his destiny once and for all.
Tiger’s Dream is the conclusion to the epic Tiger’s Curse fantasy romance series that left you breathless.
TIGER'S DREAM BY COLLEEN HOUCK EXCERPT
When the men came to a stop before Shala and Wyea, the twin gods raised their arms to hush the crowd. “We’ve kept her face hidden from you though all of you have heard her voice and responded to her call. She is our savior. Sent by the ancients who have gifted us with a new home. And now she has descended to this plane to serve and live among us. Meet our love. Our Lawala newly sprung.”
The woman didn’t move. The honey tone of her skin shone in the light of the temple with the same sheen of heat that dampened my own skin. I sucked in a breath and waited along with the crowd.
One of the gods, the sharp-eyed one known as Shala, looked down, his mouth a hard line that covered the gleaming white teeth of his politician’s smile from a moment before. “Dear one,” he said, his tone dripping with a false patience, “rise and greet your people.”
Groaning, the woman’s fingers dug into the fibers of the litter. The man above twitched his fingers, manipulating her like a puppet. Her arms shook as she lifted her body. As the crowd cheered, she swayed drunkenly, her emerald eyes bleary and unfocused.
Ana!
The men turned her in circle so everyone could gaze upon the goddess.
And now, The Giveaways.

I have not read it to decide what are my favorite moments. It sounds very exciting to read though! Rita Spratlen
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteOMG I read these books in seventh grade, and now I'm a junior in highschool. These books still remain my favorite, and I was overjoyed when I found out about Tiger's Dream. As for my favorite moments, it has to be when when Ren first revealed himself to Kelsey. That was the first "WTF!", *drops book to the ground* moment, and it set off a whole chain of reactions after that. Can't wait to read Tiger's Dream!
ReplyDeleteSo very excited for this book! The Tiger's Curse is my favourite series by far! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any yet. sorry.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started this series. Looking forward to starting it.
ReplyDelete"Tell me your favorite moments in the Tiger's Curse Saga?" When I've read it, I'm sure I will have many!
