TEN FAVORITE GUY/GIRLS CHARACTERS FROM YOUR BOOKS, INCLUDING RANDOM FACTS ABOUT THEM.
This is so fun! I get asked questions from readers about characters from Eat Pray #FML all the time so this one seemed like the one to do! Let’s start with the obvious ones…

1. JAVIER  Javier is the main male character throughout the book. People tend to either love and sympathize with him or absolute dislike him. That was never my intention when I was writing, in fact, I was very much still in love with him while I was writing the book. Javier is the one I fell madly in love with, who then broke my heart into a million pieces, and was the reason I ended up on a solo trip across the world. He’s charming, charismatic, yet broken and lost.

RANDOM FACTS
―We actually met six years earlier and went out on two dates, but it never went any further.
―He has read the book.

2. EMMA  Emma is one of my best friends from college who moved to London with her boyfriend. Since mine and Javier’s original flight was booked to London to then connect to Rome, I was able to stay with her to start my solo journey in London. I was so thankful to have some familiarity to start this crazy experience and it allowed me to ease into the whole process of being on my own.

RANDOM FACTS
She’s getting married! I’ll be back in London next year as a bridesmaid.
One of my favorite deleted scenes from the book was watching a ridiculous British show with her at her apartment and laughing our asses off.

3. JESS ― Jess is one of my best friends back home and was by my side through the entire divorce. We talked often on my European adventure and she really was the one I vented to and worked through a lot of my feelings with.

RANDOM FACTS
―We met when she was twelve and I was eighteen, she was a student in my hip hop class.
―She wanted to keep her real name in the book (but I changed almost all of them.)

4. JASON  Jason and I first met randomly in the Red Light District in Amsterdam. He then invited me to meet him in Mykonos later in my trip and we ended up becoming good friends. He was a young, fun kid who became a little brother to me on my trip.

RANDOM FACTS
―He checked in on me once he went home and I was still on my trip.
―We’ve seen each other multiple times since the trip and we’re still friends.

5. CHRIS ― This seems to be everyone’s favorite character in the book. Chris and I met in Barcelona and had a friendship turned romance that lead to me healing a bit for the first time on my journey. He was such a kind and genuine person and I think it really translated to readers.

RANDOM FACTS
―Yes, we’ve seen each other since. You’ll have to wait for book #2 for it J
―He’s insanely smart.

6. MARCUS  Marcus was the guy who was fun to be with and not too serious. We met in Mykonos on my first night out. Everything about Marcus, his friends, and Mykonos, was fun. It really was a reminder to be carefree and enjoy life which was so needed at that point in my travels.

RANDOM FACTS
―He was the least comfortable with the book (which totally surprised me.)
―He travels often.

7. ANA ― Ana is Javier’s mother. Her and I connected immediately, and she was so incredible throughout my entire journey. We spoke often about my feelings and it was amazing to me how open and non-biased she was in talking to me about her son. She was truly a big part of getting me through such a difficult time and I have so much respect for her.

RANDOM FACTS
We still have a relationship and get together every once in a while.
She approved the book with no questions asked.

8. MALLORY  I met Mallory in Barcelona and she was one of the females I really connected with. She was so well traveled and had been on a solo journey for months. After her trip she would be relocating to Australia for a year. Her bravery really inspired me.

RANDOM FACTS
―We still keep in touch!
―She’s sent me postcards from Australia and Vietnam.

9. INEKE  Ineke was the woman who hosted me in Amsterdam in her eclectic apartment. I can’t describe her better than I do in the book: ‘a young sixty-year-old in a polka dot dress and leggings, hair in a high bun with thick bangs on her forehead, and glasses so thick they could have been shields.’ She was so sweet and welcoming, and her apartment really became one of my favorite places.

RANDOM FACTS
―She messaged me later on my trip to see how I was doing.
―She is a family friend of my old sports coach who connected us when he found out I was going to Amsterdam.

10. TIMOTHEE  Timothée and all his French accent glory was such a sweet soul. In Paris it was so nice to have someone familiar after I had a questionable first night there. He took me under his wing and we had a wild night out together.

RANDOM FACTS
―We met on my honeymoon. He was the wine expert at the resort my ex-husband and I stayed at.
―He met his wife while working at the Bora Bora resort and they’re still together now living in Paris J

A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a nineteen-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left.

Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself. And staying at home heartbroken? F%*k. That.

What does a woman do when her life has fallen apart and her heart has been ripped out and stepped on twice in two months? She goes on a wild adventure, makes some bad decisions, and does a sh*t load of soul searching. But most importantly? She finds out how to love…herself.
