B.K. Borison lives in Baltimore with her sweet husband, vivacious toddler, and giant dog. She started writing in the margins of books when she was in middle school and hasn’t stopped.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Finding my books on shelves at the bookstore was an incredible experience. Having my daughter point them out and say “Mommy’s book!” made me cry. I always want my daughter to feel empowered. I love that she gets to see me chase after a dream.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to have a life in writing?
Try. You’ll never know if you don’t try. For so long, I held myself back because of all of the unknowns. I finally decided to let go of expectation and do the things that made me happy. Write a book that feels good for you, and work on the rest later. If you’re not having fun you haven’t found the right story to tell.

What was the single worst distraction that kept you from writing this book?
The internet. Every time I come upon a question while I’m writing, I open Google and lose two hours of my life down various wormholes. I always say my internet browsing history is a dead giveaway to whatever I’m writing. Now, I do a full digital shutdown whenever I’m working on a manuscript. Otherwise, nothing gets done.

Why is storytelling so important for all of us?
Because it lets us disappear into other perspectives. We’re missing out on so much by only getting to experience one way of life.

What was the most surprising thing you learned in creating your characters?
That they have minds of their own! It’s always so silly when I tell people how characters shape their own story. As the writer, I should be in control, right? Wrong. A lot of my characters have changed from their conception purely because of how loud their voices were as I wrote them. It’s been a fun experience for me to stretch my creative muscles and let my characters have space to grow.
What were your inspirations for the character development?

Your Journey to Publication
When I decided I wanted to write a book, I told myself I would self-publish and see what happened. I wanted to know if people would even be interested in my work before pursuing anything more seriously. I published LOVELIGHT FARMS with no preparation, no marketing plan, no cover, nothing in the proper place at all. But the story blew up on social media and book sales took off. I’m still shocked at how it happened.

From there, I self-published two more books and my audience continued to grow. I connected with my agent, Kim, and then Berkley expressed interest in the series. I pinch myself every morning that I get to do this.

Best date you've ever had?
I met my husband in Rome, Italy and he took me to a park. We wandered around drinking hot chocolate for hours.

What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
I need more sleep.

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
English.

First Love?
Coffee and Orlando Bloom.

At a movie theater which arm rest is yours?
Both of them.

What is your greatest adventure?
Becoming a mom.

What is the first job you have had?
I worked at a hardware store helping people order wood pellets for pellet stoves.

Two best friends fake date to reach their holiday happily ever after in this first romantic comedy in the Lovelight series.

A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams.

In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, Stella enters a contest with Instagram-famous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, Stella might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on her application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only…there is no boyfriend.

Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just stopped by for some hot chocolate and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process. But fake dating his best friend might be the best Christmas present he’s ever received.
